Is Australia a “rosy” dream for immigrants?

Is Australia a “rosy” dream for immigrants?

When somebody mentions the most cozy continent on the Planet, we always picture two warm oceans washing the shores of Australia, large kangaroos, platypuses, the Great Barrier Reef and endless waterfalls.
It is known that Australia is a very tolerant country due to the fact that every fourth Australian was born beyond the mainland. Out of 25 million, 6 million people are not local. Accents, cultures, and various landscapes are fused in this country. But is it possible to move to Australia in 2022? Let's delve into.

What about the visa?

Since February 21, Australia has opened its borders to fully vaccinated foreign tourists. Vaccination should be complete, at least 7 days from the last dose; “Sputnik V" is suitable amongst the Russian vaccines.
Before the trip, you need to fill out the Digital Passenger Declaration form (within 72 hours before departure). You need to upload the vaccination certificate and the test result to it.
Unfortunately, at the moment Australia does not issue tourist visas. A visa can be obtained only where eligible. The document is issued for business trips, family reasons, for marriage, for training or highly qualified migrants.
For people who only want to move to Australia as an investor or start up a business in Australia, a single visa is provided – Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) Visa, subclass 188.

What about business?

When it comes to business, it is a very friendly country. It provides the conditions for opening your own business.
Step 1. Australia offers several different forms of ownership, from which you need to choose the most suitable for your business: Sole Trader, Partnership, Company, Cooperative.
Step 2. If you want to work using your own name, then registering the name is not needed. If you want a separate business name, you need to register with ASIC – then you can use the business name within the country. Please note that the name may not be unique.
Step 3. An Australian Business Number is a unique digital identifier of your business, whch is needed for operation. An ABN is issued free of charge, you need to apply on the website of the Business Registrar of Australia.
Step 4. Regardless of the form of ownership, you need to get a tax file number (TFN). If you plan to operate as an individual entrepreneur, you can use your personal TFN. In other cases, you need to get a separate number for the company. The registration is online. The type of your business determines the varying types of taxes you will need to pay.
Step 5. Remember that the required licenses and permits differ depending both on the types of operation and on the region of your business. In Australia, the Business License and Information Service (ABLIS) issues licenses and permits. On the Service's website, you can find the exact documents you need in your case, as well as submit an online application for issue.

What about housing?

Most Australians live in private homes. There are high-rise buildings in the city center where you can rent an apartment or suite. Residential skyscrapers resemble 3-star hotels: a huge lobby, halls with red carpets, high-speed elevators, and a supermarket on the ground floor. But they are mostly chosen by students, immigrants or those who work at the center. As soon as you drive away from the center for more than 10 kilometers, the "one-story Australia" begins.

The locals most often rent or get a mortgage, because the prices for real estate are very high. A three-bedroom house in a not quite close suburb of Melbourne costs an average of 550-600 thousand dollars; closer to the center, the starting average price of a house is a million. The mortgage rate is small ― from 2 to 3%. Although it’s cheaper than house rent, it is not easy to get. The down payment is from 10 to 20% of the cost of housing. Moreover, the buyer must prove having a stable good job in order to be able to pay this mortgage.

What about education and marital status?

Children in Australia are loved as adults willingly give birth to them. Commonly, the families there have children. The leave after childbirth is short — only a year — and moms and dads can take it. The state pays an allowance of nearly $250-300 per week for one child. There are nurseries, but they’re all private and very expensive. Therefore, women often prefer not to go to work before the child is 4-5 years old starts to go to preschool.
Most Australians have a secondary special education received in colleges. For instance, you can get an accountant or a tourism specialist training in just 3-6 months. In Russia, it takes years to get such a qualification.
University is expensive and costs tens of thousands of dollars. Higher education is pursued by the very few. And the person, who is bent upon getting it, is well-respected.
